Getaway to Gorgeous Pine Creek Gorge – “The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania”

Pine Creek Gorge spreads for over 45 miles. It begins near the town of Wellsboro, PA, and has the deepest point at 1,450 feet in Waterville, PA, near the southern end.

The gorge provides the most spectacular views! It is filled with cliff walls and waterfalls and is a part of the Tioga State Forest. It encompasses Colton Point State Park and Leonard Harrison State Park.

There are two "must-see" lookout points:

• Colton Point lookout on the west rim of the canyon.
• Leonard Harrison lookout on the east rim of the canyon.

Both offer spectacular views of the Canyon all year round, but visiting them in the fall is especially breathtaking!

Some of the popular activities when visiting Pine Creek Gorge are hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing in winter on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Horseback riding is also allowed in some sections. This 65-mile trail begins upon Wellsboro and runs to Jersey Shore. Pine Creek Rail Trail is good for all skill levels.

You can take train rides on the Tioga Central Railroad, take a wagon ride tour through the canyon, or go whitewater rafting. Numerous museums, theatres, wineries are also popular places of interest among tourists in the PA Canyon area.
