Located in Portersville PA, it contains a beautiful 3,225-acre Lake Arthur, rolling hills, lush forests, and a large number of year-round recreational opportunities, there is something for everyone in the park. Moraine State Park has two swimming sandy beaches 1,200-foot-long Pleasant Valley Beach and 550-foot-long Lakeview Beach. ⁠

Getaway Description

Moraine State Park is 16,725 acres of exceptional scenery, opened on May 23, 1970. It spreads over Brady, Clay, Franklin, Muddy Creek, and Worth townships in Butler County, Pennsylvania.

The park provides a large number of year-round recreational opportunities. That is why, each year, more than one million people from all over the world come here for active rest and beautiful views.

Moraine State Park is used for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, boating, swimming, fishing, hunting, wildlife watching, and disc golfing. In the winter months, people come here for ice-fishing, snowmobiling, sledding, and cross-country skiing.

You can swim on two beaches. The Pleasant Valley Beach on the South Shore is a 1,200-foot turf and sand beach. Lakeview Beach on the North Shore is a 550-foot sand beach.

There are 29.2 miles of hiking and biking trails for every level. The Moraine State Park Bike Trail has so much rolling terrain and breathtaking scenery.

The park features two Lake Arthur beaches that can be used for swimming. A sand volleyball court and playground area are on the west side of the beach. The beaches are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year.

You can take a boat ride on a new pontoon boat called Preston’s Pearl, which offers 90-minute sightseeing tours, dinner/brunch cruises, and more. ⁠Or, you can go standup paddle-boarding with SurfSUP Adventures. Glow and sunset paddleboarding at night is very beautiful! ⁠⁠

The park is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Where To Stay

Visiting Moraine State Park, there are lots of places to stay in the area with great amenities for the whole family. You can choose from group tent sites, backcountry shelter areas, Cooper’s Lake Campground, cabins, and much more.

There are 11 cabins available in Moraine State Park, which include a kitchen area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a shower. Each cabin comes with its own dock and lake access. The cabins sleep up to six people. Cabins #7 and #11 are pet-friendly.

Bluethistle B&B is located 2,6 miles from Moraine State Park. It is a small inn that has only 3 rooms with antique furniture. Each room has a comfortable bed, TV, private bathroom with complimentary toiletries, bottled water, refrigerator, microwave, air conditioning, coffee maker, and cozy sitting area.
